Itron, Inc., currently has a job opening for an Embedded Software Design/Sustaining Engineer in its West Union, SC. facility. The candidate will work in a team atmosphere on new product development and sustaining projects in the R and D department. Experience developing code to test HW design functionality would be a plus. The position offers challenges to a person who is motivated to develop and debug embedded software for various sections of the product line. Product lines include wireless communication technologies, Ethernet, USB and general microprocessor based applications. The candidate will work as an individual on single team projects and also cooperative team projects as required. Candidate must be able to self:motivate and have good time management skills.
Major Responsibilities/Duties 1. Sustain embedded software for line of electricity meter products.
2. Focused effort toward enhancements and problem resolution from field requests
3. Design code modules for new projects under development
4. Development of code for HW verification due to component changes
5. Participates in the extensive test effort required to produce "bug:free" software
6. Designs for Manufacturing from start to finish on new designs
Experience:
Requires no professional experience: Entry point for college graduate 1. Must possess the skills to design and test highly optimized software for microcontroller based electronics
2. Seeking a candidate with a strong academic focus and proven experience in communications protocol design/implementation
3. Must have experience operating emulators, debuggers, protocol analyzers, etc. for debug/testing of embedded systems
4. Experience with RF engineering, including a fundamental understanding of wireless communication principals and theories a plus
5. Ability to write clear and professional documentation of work
6. The ideal candidate must "thrive" in a team environment
7. Must have proven oral and written communication skills
Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience.
