Description
The E and I Technician will be responsible for maintaining, trouble:shooting, repairing, and installing plant instrumentation and electrical equipment for all areas of the plant in an effort to improve reliability and minimize production downtime. The E and I Technician would perform mechanically oriented tasks when required. The successful candidate will work with direction from supervisor as necessary to perform highly accurate work. As a member of the Maintenance Team, the E and I technician will be required to interface with all departments including: Engineering (Process and Project), Production, Shipping, and the Laboratory.
Occasional exposure to chemical vapors or liquids is a potential and the proper PPE is required for all job tasks.
Bending, stooping, lifting, climbing and walking are all physical requirements related to the working conditions.
Must also work for extended periods outdoors in all types of weather and in all possible plant locations.
Occasionally works on, or in close proximity to, high voltage equipment and maybe have potential exposure to chemical vapors, steam or eye or skin irritants.
Works at heights where danger of falling exists. Employees are required to wear the proper PPE at all times for every job task.
Also performs repair work on high voltage equipment which could result in electrical shock if safety precautions are not observed.
Exposed to potential strains from lifting and handling process equipment.
Must wear safety gear while working at elevated levels 6 feet and above. Could potentially slip and fall while climbing or descending from a ladder.
The successful candidate will locate trouble and decide what corrective measures must be taken to properly repair or maintain instruments and controls. Work from blueprints and circuit diagrams when making repairs and installations. Work is non:routine with a variety of situations occurring. Supervision is available, but incumbent is expected to complete assignment under minimal supervision.
The E and I Technician works alone or as a member of a crew, depending on the nature of the work involved, provides technical assistance to the Maintenance Mechanics and/or other E and I Technicians, May oversee small projects in the electrical and instrumentation area which may involve directing the efforts of lower classified personnel or the supervision of outside contractors.
Qualifications : BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
High school education or equivalent and one of the following:
1. Two year Associates Degree in a related Instrumentation, Electronics, or Electrical field, or
2. Five year total of education, training, and/or experience (which the following elements may be used to satisfy this requirement:
: Registered apprenticeship in an instrumentation, measurement and control, electronics, electrical, and/or mechanical program, if applicable
: Academic degree (or equivalent) in a related technology area, to a maximum of four years
: Related work experience
Five to ten years of E and I experience
Two years or greater of E and I Experience in a chemical industrial environment
Knowledge/Skills
: A strong technical knowledge of instrumentation, controls, and electrical equipment
: Skilled at reading loop sheets, electrical interconnect drawings, ladder logic drawings, equipment specifications, and Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P and ID's).
