Incumbent Nuclear QA Tech Specialist serves in the role of Technical Support and/or ISI Coordinator Technicians that ensure Code / Standards Commitments as outlined in Duke Energy QA Topical Report, the Stations 10 Yr ISI Plans, Nuclear System Directives, Nuclear Inspection and NDE Examination procedures, Dukes Welding Program and Station procedures /directives are implemented. Also assures these activities are implemented by Engineering and Work Execution through the Work Management System process by performing final reviews work order packages. The incumbent also provides technical support/guidance to NDE inspection and execution personnel as related to the QA Program. Receives guidance and supervision as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides technical expertise and guidance to Inspection personnel and other Station Groups with the implementation of QA requirements, codes and standards, and the resolution of problems that arise as part of this process
Makes technical decisions on daily activities (e.g. placement of inspection requirements into Maintenance procedures, waiving of inspection hold points when Codes are not applicable, and stopping work on Station activities when quality is compromised); informs supervisor of controversial issues or potential problem
Identifies, investigates and works with appropriate personnel to effectively resolve and / or approve resolutions of identified problems and issues (e.g. NCRs, NRC findings, and Assessment areas for improvement or findings)
Interfaces and communicates with Regulatory Agency representatives, Industry reps, and vendor reps to provide needed information and to investigate and resolve problem areas
Meets with Assessment teams from the NRC and INPO to answer questions pertaining to whether inspection activities and programmatic issues meeting Code Industry Standards or Duke Energys QA Program requirements
Works with the ANII and Site Engineering Program Manager to assure Code requirements are being met
Gather required information for completing the NIS-2 reports for ASME Section XI repairs and replacement. Complete, sign the NIS-2 reports and submit them with the completed work packages to the Authorized Nuclear In-service Inspector (ANII) for his review and approval
Develop , process, and complete test packages for implementing the requirements of the site pressure testing program
Perform final reviews of all QA Condition 1 Work Orders, QA Condition 1, 2, 3, & 4 minor and major modification packages to insure that all work performed met the required Code and Duke Energy requirements
Act as the responsible individual on various inspection procedures to write and provide specific instruction for discipline inspection personnel to follow. These inspection guidelines also provide the basis to be included as hold points in craft procedures
Act as the single point of contact for all site pressure testing requirements
Working Conditions:
Normal work hours (40 Hrs) 4/10 schedule (M-Th)
Weekend, backshift and overtime hours may be required based on workloads
90% of work is typically in an office environment and 10% in a field environment
Radiological work environment
Additional time outside normal working hours may be required for outage coverage, emergency response duty, technical duty coverage of holidays, nights & weekends, unit threats etc
~25% travel
